Coffee from Around the World
Years ago, I started visiting local coffee shops whenever I traveled. Then, I started sharing them on LinkedIn. The result? New connections. New places. New coffee. And a whole lot of great photos to share here!

Oh, and my coffee of choice? Always iced espresso – extra ice, splash of cream!

Paris, France
Enjoying a nice cold coffee from a balcony overlooking the Eiffel Tower. Always a great moment to pause and think about how my work is impacting people in their jobs

London, England
Whenever I visit London, I have to stay in my favorite hotel where they serve an excellent local brew. Notice Napoleon staring back at me. He reminds me of leadership skills, for better or worse.

Brasov, Romania
Good morning from Brasov Romania! I was up not quite in time to see the sunrise, but not much after. (I did go to bed at 7pm after all!) I arrived in this beautiful city late yesterday afternoon, in advance of the EverythingHR Events conference later this week.

Devonport, New Zealand
Last week in fractional life, I was on the other side of the world on vacation. When we returned from New Zealand, I planned a quiet-ish week to recover from jet lag. And after two and a half weeks in Australia and NZ and weeks of constant travel before that, I was ready to be home for a bit!

Melbourne, Australia
Our first coffee stop in Melbourne was Market Lane Coffee and it did not disappoint! We’ve had a couple days and we are getting accustomed on how to order, what’s what and what isn’t available (cream!) And we are enjoying every minute.

Woodstock, Vermont
We are so lucky to live where we do. One hour by car from Boston, Vermont, the White Mountains of NH, Maine, and the ocean. We spent a lot of time in Boston and Vermont in 2023, not as much in the others.

Portland, Maine
Yesterday I decided, for the first time, to take a client meeting from my favorite local coffee shop. As a CPO, I would occasionally have in person meetings there. As a fractional CPO, I couldn’t wait to take a zoom meeting in one of the private “phone booth” tiny rooms.

Dublin, Ireland
As the team and I are about to head to Dublin to announce and celebrate the Top 100 Inspiring Workplaces across North America I thought I would share a snippet from our joint UK & Ireland and European Award ceremony that I just got back today. The atmosphere was incredible.

Palm Desert, California
My view today is unfortunately not of palm trees, but on Tuesday I got to spend the day amongst them, in California as I went for a quick trip to send out college student on her way to study abroad. A new to us coffee shop, Alfred’s, some decaf iced vanilla lattes, some palm trees and 70 degree weather in Marina del Rey helped make a pretty perfect afternoon.

Rejkavik, Iceland
A week with two “Coffee Days?!?!” In celebration of international coffee day today, here’s a flashback photo to an iced espresso from our trip to Reykjavik Iceland last year. It was an absolutely beautiful country. And we also never had a bad coffee!

Monadnock, New Hampshire
No power, treacherous roads and a somewhat unexpected late March snowstorm coupled with a very unexpected late March ice storm and temperatures in the teens calls for our emergency Blue Bottle instant espresso! Our plans today might have to be the same as yesterday (staying in), but we have a generator running the heat, water and refrigerator so it could be worse!

Walt Disney World, Florida
Most of us have a lot of people and things we love. I love my family, espresso, Disney, sunrises and sunsets, the ocean, really bad movies, being outdoors, chocolate - and the list goes on and on. When someone asks me what I love, work would not be one of the first things I thought of. But should it be? As Buckingham states in this HBR article, “Love is the force that most powerfully drives customer and employee behaviors — and strangely, businesses today don’t value it.”
